There are 9 full sessions in this lab course: with an introduction to the lab and its methods, and 8 experiments in general chemistry. Some additional shorter sessions may be necessary (usually amounting to 2 full sessions). Sessions take place once a week throughout the semester, to allow a convenient interval between experiments. The first session will take place in the first week of the semester, in the lecture hall of the new laboratory building (Brandman 017). At the first session, students must present confirmation that they have performed the safety test. Note: the Interactive Safety Tutorial (76222) is a prerequisite for this lab. Students must complete the above course before the lab begins. Students must attend each session wearing closed shoes, clothing that covers their arms and legs, a full-length lab coat, and standard-compliant safety goggles. The three lab groups are identical in content, but for convenience of the students an effort will be made to form the groups by academic program. According to the plan, Lab 1 has been assigned to medicine science students and others, Lab 2 for chemistry and biology students and others, and Lab 3 for earth science students and others. This may change depending on the groups’ annual schedules. Chemistry students are welcome in any of these lab groups. Note: Please enroll in the lab as soon as the registration system opens at the beginning of the year; this will make it possible for us to be appropriately prepared for the number of participants. Note: You must enroll in the lab in the year for which it is defined as compulsory for you. The Chemistry Department will not guarantee the place of students who do not take the lab in the appropriate year for their academic program. If you have a postponement permission document, present it to the Chemistry Department.
